Release tension, restore flow
Hijama / Wet Cupping
Traditional suction-cup therapy that draws out stagnation, improves circulation, and melts deep muscle tension.

About This Treatment
Hijama (wet cupping) uses specially designed cups to create suction on the skin, drawing blood and lymphatic fluid to the surface to stimulate healing. This ancient technique is highly effective for muscle tension, respiratory conditions, and detoxification. Many athletes use cupping as part of their recovery protocol.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does cupping feel like?
- Cupping creates a suction sensation that most patients describe as firm but comfortable pressure. It is different from massage -- rather than compressing the tissue, it pulls the tissue upward. Wet cupping (hijama) also involves a brief superficial incision before the cup is applied.
- Will cupping leave marks on my skin?
- Cupping often leaves circular discoloration ranging from pink to dark red. These are not bruises -- they form because stagnant blood and fluids are drawn to the surface. The marks are generally painless and fade within 3-7 days depending on how much stagnation is present.
- How is cupping different from acupuncture?
- Acupuncture uses needles inserted at specific points. Cupping uses suction applied to the surface of the skin. Both work by stimulating circulation and reducing stagnation, but through different mechanisms. Many patients receive both in a single session for conditions involving significant muscle tension.
- Is cupping covered by insurance?
- Cupping is sometimes included under an acupuncture benefit depending on how the visit is billed and what your specific plan covers. Coverage is not universal. We can check whether your plan covers cupping when we verify your acupuncture benefits before your first appointment.
