Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can acupuncture help with IVF success rates?
- Research supports acupuncture as an adjunct to IVF. Multiple randomized trials have found that acupuncture around egg retrieval and embryo transfer is associated with improved clinical pregnancy rates in some populations. We coordinate timing with your reproductive endocrinologist.
- When should I start acupuncture for fertility?
- Starting 3 months before trying to conceive or before a planned IVF cycle allows the most time for treatment to take effect. Egg maturation takes approximately 90 days, so earlier treatment can influence that cycle. Starting closer to your IVF trigger date still provides benefit, particularly for reducing stress and improving uterine blood flow.
- Does acupuncture help regulate irregular menstrual cycles?
- Yes. Menstrual irregularity -- short cycles, long cycles, absent periods, or painful periods -- is one of the conditions acupuncture addresses most directly. Normalizing cycle length and reducing period pain are common outcomes of fertility-focused treatment.
- Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
- Yes, with appropriate modifications. Certain acupuncture points are contraindicated during pregnancy, and a trained practitioner will avoid them. We offer prenatal acupuncture for nausea, back pain, pelvic pain, and labor preparation -- all safe and appropriate at the relevant stages.
